What motivation would Sledgehammer Games have to make a successful COD game

I would make the note that if another developer takes on CoD, I would assume they would negotiate for the rights to bonuses if the game goes well. If IW didn't receive any royalties from MW2 sales, that may precisely be the reason as to IW acting the way they have...Which may jeopardize another developer making the title.
