I think you are on the right track with what the PSP2 will offer too.
Only thing I will add is it will most likely be announced the same day they announce B/C for all PS3 models (via Firmware) that will only support PSN downloaded PS2 games. Meaning your old B/C models will work for both, while slims/newer phats will only support them downloaded (no disc B/C).
The new PSP2 will support these PS2 downloaded games as well. I also think Sony will actually (holy shit here is comes) SUPPORT this handheld. No matter how you look at the PSP, it is a success from top to bottom.
