TL;DR: My main problem with Chrono Cross is that the characters don't really seem to "think" like humans.
They all feel like robots and less like people to the point it stretches credibility and believability.
Examples? And know that this REALLY gets text heavy.
Spoilers for Chrono Cross
Kid doesn't bat an eye when Dark Serge is preparing and instigating for war to happen. She just feels completely one-dimensional because her only focus is killing Lynx. Dark Serge even explains the switch right in front of you and her and she still says nothing.
Home World Fargo has a dresser and mirror of Zelbes's that Home world Nikki doesn't realize is his mother's until the cut scene you witness between them. All Nikki does is look at it and he automatically comes to the conclusion it's his mother's and Fargo is his father. The problem is, Nikki's been in that room and it's been established he has been working for Fargo for years. Yet one look at some part of the dresser, which he by all rights has laid eyes on before, suddenly makes him realize everything spontaneously.
The beginning of the game leads you to believe that Serge has no idea that he shifted into an alternate world yet once you learn more about the Dragoons, you suddenly realize that you were attacking the police force of El Nido and the game FORCES you to always join Kid's side on that even though she is the one who threatens them with a knife. Serge is then okay with breaking into a General's mansion and impersonating his military... if he was so curious to know why Viper wanted him then why didn't he just fo with Karsh (the subordinate who politely asked him to come to the mansion for questioning)? >_>;
Riddel (The General's daughter) gets held by knife point by Kid. What does Riddel say when you get the chance to speak with her when Viper moved his army to Fort Dragonia? "Kid tried to save me!". She completely ignores the fact she wouldn't have been in danger of Lynx's attack had Kid not used her as a hostage. And if Kid DIDN'T want to use her as a hostage then why even pull a knife to her throat and use her as a human shield?
Also, the so-called "dimensions" don't make any real sense. Here I'll explain further:
If Crono and Co.'s actions send the previous timeline to the "darkness beyond time" then why didn't Kid changing Serge's future send the previous timeline in which Serge died to the "darkness beyond time"?
Furthermore, where do these timelines actually go? In the beginning they tell you it goes to Chronopolis's dead sea yet later on they say the "darkness beyond time".
Also, about Dinopolis, since it was made by the planet to counteract Chronopolis then why didn't the planet make another Dinopolis when the first one fell? The planet was given credence beyond comprehensive power or human ability so why couldn't it make another one? The argument that the Time Devourer was taking it's power is moot because the game itself doesn't say the Time Devourer was weakening the planet or even imply it. Just that it created separate dimensions.
Now, you could say the time devourer is the reason that there were two dimensions of an existing timeline but again that makes no sense since Schala fused with Lavos in the past and wasn't affected by the timeline of Crono and Co's future going to the Darkness beyond time, thus Schala was already the Time Devourer before either Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross. So why didn't Kid's actions create the same result that Crono and Co's actions did?
Yeah... wall of texts I know, but I have serious issues with Chrono Cross's so-called plot, imo.
