Me personally. I don't think that nationalism plays a big role when you are defending what is yours. When it comes to the iraq war however, I suppose George W Bush was an opportunist. He saw the 9/11 attacks as an opportunity to invade for oil in a failed attempt to impress his father. When a country is attacked even by a force not associated with a government, anything can happen.
However morality is subjective and basing a war based on another country's morality is pointless.
