Didn't the Gameboy last 9 years (89-98?)
The DS is doing well; momentum is obviously lower, but it sold 300k+ units this past week.
Until it starts hacking blood like the PSP, I don't see a DS2 for maybe 2 more years, but what do I know.

Remember GBA. It was released 2001 and then DS was released at the end of 2004.. GBA was selling just fine but still Nintendo released DS.

I think the DS release was probably out of retailiation to the PSP launch. I'm guessing now, once again, Sony will have to make the first move in terms of a new handheld in order for Nintendo to drop the DS2. I don't see any great reason for Nintendo to cut off the DS line just yet. Also, the launch of Ninty's handheld must have some correlation to their next console. However, Nintendo hasn't had a leading console/handheld tandem since SNES/GB, so I don't really have a good clue as to what they will do now.

Fascinating stuff isn't it?
