Well if thats the Japanese pronunciation i'll go with it.
Sometimes it's best to have a foreign spelling of a word or name to tell you how it should be spoken so you don't get the confusion you do from your native tongue.
The eco-system being messed up with all the marine life being stolen appealed to me more. The "echo" was a bit too... disney for me.
