The abilities through gear is NOTHING like the FFTA series (and it was FF9 that was first with that thing). In FFTA 1,2 and FF9, you gain something like SP which will go towards your character learning abilities off of gear and mastering it. It's not like that whatsoever in FF14. You don't master abilities that you can then use with the gear off. You can only use whatever abilities are on the gear you have equipped, and it looks like the gear itself can level up (unsure about this, but from the way they described stuff, there's something like this going on). Or maybe, gears have a class, and you can rank up in a class of gear. As in, the more you use black mage gear, the better you more you get out of all black mage gear. You don't master any skills though. It's different enough to say there's little comparison between that and the FFTA system. And I'm not sure what gameplay things you're expecting in SW:TOR, but it's regarded as a tab-targetting MMO. As in, press tab, press 12341234, tab, 12341234, etc. It's a very EQ-clone style of combat. Do you frequent the forums over there? I check them every once in a while for changes, and watch the trailers, which also show it to be a standard MMO combat style. So I'm not sure about what you think is new in terms of gameplay. A small thread about the tab-targetting: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=120584 And the leveling is normal. Do quests, kill stuff, level up. There's little knowledge about skill tress or the like, but I doubt it'll be anything unique. The game will still be good, but I'm not expecting some king of revolution in the MMORPG genre from the game. FF14 is a FAR more unique MMO at this stage. We won't know until they're released, but all information that's been released so far points to that. I'm pumped about both, but I'm really curious to where you're getting your information on all of this. |
First of all, one feature doesn't make it exactly like Everquest. Even if it had 'tab targetting', which is not set in stone yet, that still doesn't make the game 'like everquest'. As I said before, Star Wars Galaxies was the 'Everquest' styled game in nearly every way. Right down to the way you equipped items and the environment. Because, hey, it was made by much ofthe Everquest development team.
Second of all, there's many more reasons I'm saying Star Wars: The Old Republic is looking more unique. But to go into those would really start turning this into a thread about that. Suffice to say, it goes into the combat engine being more action oriented and not having a traditional leveling system (story choices determine how you level) among other things.
