Frankly, I haven't seen anything from preview videos to make me think FFXIV will be any different than FFXI. Aside from the graphical upgrade and a new story. And well...I play RPGs for everything but those two things. Especially MMORPGs.

So, for me, I'll be holding out for Star Wars: The Old Republic. A game that actually looks like its not only doing something different from WoW, but trying to change MMORPGs as a whole.  And that's from the gameplay and exploration side of things, what I look for in an RPG.

That's odd, FF14's "leveling" system is nothing like FF11 at all. In FF14, you don't actually choose a class, your gear gives you stats and skills and abilities. So if you wear black mage gear, you can cast black magic. You can change your gear at any point, and thus change your class at any point, you just need to have the gear on you. Exact details are unknown.

Also, you don't actually level up. I think your gear might level up the more you use it, but your character itself doesn't gain experience. Again, exact details are unknown.

FF14 as an MMO will be VERY different than the standard WoW/EQ clones.

As to SW:TOR, I have high hopes for that game as well, but it looks completely like an EQ clone. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that's a bad thing per se, but in terms of gameplay, it doesn't look like anything unique. There seems to be some sort of choice in terms of dialogue which is cool. Not sure how that would really work in an MMO but we'll see.

So I'm not sure where you're coming from. SW:TOR seems FAR more story based than FF14 considering your character's story is a central part of the gameplay. Essentially, quests are either story quests or non-story quests, and there's a focus (from the forum-goers) on the difference between the two.
