a CD disc could be sent out with the BIOS fix on the CD

yes they indeed would, why because it was already done recently with both HD DVD and Blu-Ray topset player's CE companies do that all the time for firmware updates if someone does not have access to the internet if your machine would indeed need an update to it's chipset or something like it's BIOS. sending out a CD is far cheaper than having the person having to send in their entire unit.
