I honestly think the reason for Heavy Rain's success is due to the fact that there isn't another game like it.

I know one of the things that attracted me to Heavy Rain was that it wasn't the same old recycled stuff that I've been forced to play for god knows how long. And I believe a lot of gamers felt the same way. Some of us just needed to play something new.
