The PS Dual Joystick may have actually been the first console dual stick controller though I think?  Dual Sticks were common in arcades and on PC since the 80s though, and the PS stick only predated Sega's Saturn Twin Sticks (designed specifically for Virtual On, which was HUGE in the arcades and also predated the PS sticks by a full year) by about six months.
