Comeon look at the people here, some have 3-4 DS or even more. And I bet that most people have 2. A DS and DSi, we had so many iterations of the DS and probably everyone who has bought the first one bought another one they improved quite a bit.
Most people will have 2 maybe one is broken or outdated, especially in Japan this plays a role. Infact everyone I know who has a DS has atleast 2.
Some might have just one but some other have probably 3 or more. I think at best its 18 Million different people which own a DS. That would be 1/6 of the population and is pretty realistic.
It would be a good poll: How many DS do you own. Maybe I am wrong but what experienced is that multi-ownership is a giant factor especially with the DS and its many good improvments over the time. I havent seen the first DS for a long time. |
Old DS units don't usually disappear though, they get handed down or sold used. Nintendo actually talked about in their IR reports iirc, how DS gets "recirculated" more frequently and why that likely helps the attach ratio well above traditional handhelds (GB, GBA, PSP).
18m+ DS might be a good guess at "household" ownership though... which tends to inherently favor handhelds (usually 1 per person, while consoles are usually 1 per household)...
