I do not think he read what happened to your unit or what you did to it.. but I think the reset of the PS3's Bios by disconnecting the PS3's motherboard battery is A solution. a warranty voiding Solution that is..though I can see how you pretty much did not have a choice , if you did not want it to be sent back in, and you felt you could do the repair yourself..congrat's by the way on the repair. |
Thanks. Yeah it took me about 3 hours because I have the biggest fingers and I didn't want to miss anything when fixing it. I actually work at a Gamestop and so I knew trade-in would be low on it and so I called Sony. Sony tells me that they'll fix it for about $178 after shipping. I was pissed because I was an early adopter of the system when it was $600. I didn't wanna spend anymore money on it than I had to. So, I bought a heat gun, which I returned afterwards, and some arctic silver thermal compound and fixed it for about $10. Like you said, I had no warranty, so I figured I'd give it a try. The worse part of the whole process was putting it back together and hitting the button....I prayed it wouldn't turn yellow...lol
If you read this, slap yourself.
