Why would Heavy Rain be held to the standard of Mass Effect 2 or Uncharted 2? Nobody expected that much from Heavy Rain, well, outside of Sony execs....

The game has been in development in one form or another since 2006 and it's considered a big budget game. So I have to ask you, why aren't you holding it up to the same standard as Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2?

Cost has nothing to do with appeal or potential audience, that's why.
I don't think it makes sense myself, but clearly you could spend $100 Million on a game or film that due to it's content was hugely niche in appeal and it wouldn't make sense to compare it to a title designed to have mass appeal (the high cost simply means you're chances of making a profit are not too good).
Heavy Rain is a niche title IMO whichever way you slice it, unless it manages to 'cross over' due to reviews/word of mouth, and therefore there's no sensible point comparing it to anything other than niche titles until we see how it performs over 4 to 5 weeks to see how front loaded it looks and whether it does manage to break out somewhat to be more generally appealing.
As for ME2 I don't see why its a surprise it's below Uncharted 2, ME2 itself represents a genre with (in my opinion) a smaller potential demand base than Uncharted 2. ME2 is selling better than ME1 ( so far as I'm aware) which is what Bioware will be looking at I guess and probably a better relfection of how ME2 is performing relative to its genre. Uncharted 2 has just won yet another bunch of awards, including some BAFTA's I believe, which will contribute to its legs due to continued awareness plus re-enforcement of the game as the best of 2009 overall.
Let's all be chill.

Just to correct a misconception in this thread, Mass Effect 2 on one system is charting below Uncharted 2, but if you combine the sales of both the PC and 360 versions then Mass Effect 2 is ahead of Uncharted 2 and that isn't even counting digital downloads of the game.

I was clearly referring to the appeal of ME genre on console vs a combat orientated TPS (although I guess ME2 is arguably a lot closer to a combat oriented TPS than your average RPG). On console I'd be surprised if a game like Uncharted - or even an average FPS on 360 - didn't sell more than ME2, and I was clearly pointing out this is no insult to ME2 as it's selling very well for its genre and tracking ahead of ME1 which a great performance.
You are simply too touchy about 360 exclusive titles my friend - mind you, there are those who are too touchy about PS3 exclusive titles so I understand it's hard not to respond.
