People have questioned if PlayStation 3 had a “true system seller”, most of the greatest games on PS3 have had good launches. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves sold roughly 540K at its US launch and helped push about 320K PS3s in October (note this was just after the PS3s price drop to $300). Most quality PS3 titles seem to have a “slow burn” effect on PS3 allowing the console to sell consistently. These “slow burn” titles like inFamous, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resistance 2 over the past two years have given recently purchased PS3 owners a stellar lineup of titles to choose from. The Incredible God of War franchise will be a much appreciated addition to Sony’s lineup alongside PlayStation’s other killer apps, with the 3rd installment of the franchise “in the end there will be only chaos”, chaos at retailers that is…

I have several reasons why I think God of War 3 will be the biggest PS3 title yet at the retailers. Judging by the incredible footage we’ve recently seen during Gametrailers TV and first hand impressions from the old yet incredible E3 2009 demo, GOW3 will be a masterpiece. Overall the game has become much smoother and dynamic which is expected considering the game has been in development for quite some time now. The epic scale of battle never seen before in a video game will be revealed in Kratos’s last installment to the God of War trilogy. It is clear that Santa Monica Studios wanted God of War 3 to be the ultimate hack-n-slash adventure game.

Sony touts God of War 3 as the original two titles were excellent and recognized by the public. Both titles sold multiple millions on the PlayStation 2 alone. The God of War franchise isn’t the only series waiting to make its debut on PS3 there are many other franchises still to debut on this generation’s console. Since God of War 3 is so close to release it seems more significant to the PS3, but more so than ever you get the sense of the “calm before the storm” with this title. Let’s consider the many God of War fans that have yet to purchase a PS3, in the current state of retailer inventory there will be hell trying to find one. It’s a good publicity to have a console selling so well you can’t keep up with the demand but on the downside fans will get frustrated searching for it.

We’ve seen publishers like EA try to capitalize on God of War 3’s success with Dante’s Inferno; they’ve in term further proved the success of the GOW franchise. I could hardly have any respect for Dante’s Inferno; it came without a soul. Regardless any attempt to copy a proven formula like God of War is void, the evolution of the series will be realized once GOW3 releases.

To keep things simple…, God of War 3 will roar its way into homes across the world equipped with PS3s. Those who want the title will be forced to drop any opposition to the platform regardless of preference, price or anything restricting them from owning the console previously.
