28K may seem good now, but after school you will realize that anything below about 75K won't provide a decent standard of living.  Closer to twice that if you live in an expensive city.

LOL 75k? Hahaha seriously! You've just condem like 70% of American below the poverly line. Get real buddy. 75k is a respectable income after 3-5 years in the workforce, starting off at 75k is the exception, not the bare minimum to provide a 'decent standard of living' which I'd really like for you to clarify because it sounds like your decent standard of living is way WAY higher than society's common perception.

Seriously, I don't even live in America and something like this has been drilled into my head going into the work force.

Here, its probably cannot be use as a source without backup since its Wikipedia but it should at least give a rough guideline of real American income both with and without a college education.
