I also just checked out SF Bay area and the rent for most places is cheaper than here.

If you're in a college city, then that's very low end. Trust me, I'm in Colorado and I just went through this. Granted, my city has higher prices than elsewhere, but $300 a month would be in a really crappy area. Like, you wouldn't feel safe living there.
