A thread on this topic over at Arstechnica has someone translating the Wii related portions, and as ookaze says, it's not nearly as controversal as Kotaku is making out to be.
| Wada: The Xbox 360 and PS3 segment of the market is doing very well and bringing in new customers. Obviously the older fans, i.e. the people who have been playing games for some time, are also coming back. The Xbox 360 is the polar opposite of the Wii. This is a machine that is completely geared towards hardcore gamers. If you compare the software attach rate of the Wii to the Xbox 360, you'll find that the Xbox 360 numbers are several times larger. It seems that the people who really like games are the ones buying the 360. Interviewer: With that in mind, it must be difficult for third-party vendors to accumulate sales in the Wii market. For example, there must be many users who just buy Wii Sports at first, and then only play that. Wada: It's certainly true that, based on what we're seeing right now, there are many users buying the Wii as a toy, and not as a game system. However, if that broader customer base were to enter the gaming market, you would end up with a considerable number of users. You can't say that the gaming industry, including third-party vendors, shouldn't make efforts to attract these customers into the gaming market. I think it's too early to come to any conclusions. |
