Just look at the main three Final Fantasy games on the Playstation: FF7: Cloud is emo, it's overrated, plotline is bad, Cait Sith sucks, etc. FF8: Squall is emo, junction system is too complicated, summons are different, you can't buy weapons, etc. FF9: Too cartoony, too childish, return to fantasy, etc. In fact, I'd say Final Fantasy 9 got the least complaints of those three because it was the least popular. And that doesn't mean that there were less people to complain, just less people praising it (and thus, less of a need for the enlightened people to remind us how bad they actually are). This is an endless cycle for every popular game from a popular series. And again, from I've heard, Final Fantasy 13 sounds excellent. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's ANOTHER game I have to add to my queue. I still haven't bought Uncharted 2, Mass Effect 2, or the over 9,000 other great games this generation. |
That's not really true. If you go to more FF focused forums and look at discussion of best FF game ever IX is constantly fighting for 3rd with X (behind VII and VI). On our boards it's actually probably 2nd, after VI and above VII, so it really depends on where you go.
