something like this i don't see how this is not be ok . maybe for warranty purposes but if you want to crack it open that's going to be your fault if you mess it up.

While I agree that banning for adding a new harddrive may be harsh; the problem is that once you let people do one kind of modding, how do you regulate other forms of modding? That's why the terms of service covers all modding as an offence.

Besides that, patented designs are much like copyrighted material. For the same reason you are not supposed add content to other peoples intellectual property (unless given explicit permission), you are not supposed to change retail hardware configurations.

oh...so that why the ps3 LETS you install a hard drive?

I don't buy it....

A Hard drive is a hard drive. It's there way of monopolizing on them.  It's a physical mod, something that doesn't even affect gameplay like a virtual one.
