Well... the RPG Makers don't seem to work on my Vista/Windows 7 any more so I hope RPG Inventor works with it.

In my opinion the RPG Toolkit is really awesome, but it has nearly no premade stuff and making EVERYthing yourself (even combat system) is hard. Maybe the RPG Inventor has the same ability as the RPG Maker 2k, that you can change everything offered - combat system, item menues, group menues... - but offers a standard package that works.

I have not tried RPGMaker XP on Windows 7 but it worked for me on Vista so I assume it will work on 7 too.  If anything, just run it compatability mode.  If I think about it I'll install RPGMaker XP on my Windows 7 laptop and see if it works.

And I'm not saying the OP's efforts are futile, I'm just saying he's trying to fill a niche that has already been filled.  I haven't looked at anything beyond this thread, but so far it looks like RPGMaker XP but without the community and $60 less.  To me, the community is worth $60.

I think making your own thing like that is great and something every one that aspires to be a tools programmer should do.  Hell, I think everyone who wants to be any sort of programmer in the gaming industry should at leasat make their own 2D engine.

I started to one day but never actually got around to finishing it.  >_>
