To this day, the thing that still irks me most about the PSN is the lack of an included microphone. There are still too many silent gamers online.

Other than that, Sony has done a hell of a job improving the service... but I'll never, EVER understand the point of Home.

That's not a problem with PSN, but with Sony not including it with a purchase of a PS3.

I think it's good. Not everybody is into multiplayer and therefore needs a mike.

That's like saying Sony should have saved money and not included wireless in the console... after all, not everyone wants to go online.

The more peripherals included in a console purchase, the higher likelyhood of their use. To round out their "online experience" that they wanted to push so much, a microphone should have come with the console. After all, isn't their tagline "It does everything."?

You still need internet connection to get updates for your games (firmware you can get via flashcard, but the mainstream consumer may not know that, not getting an notice in the first place without the internet connection).

Like I said, there are people who want to play online and use mics, and those who don't. There is absolutely nothing to stop those interested in the full online experience to get out and buy a mic. Although you are right in that including the mic will encourage users to, I believe that if the people weren't willing to go out and buy a mic on their own with their own money, they shouldn't be forced to buy a mic (or force Sony to eat up the cost of providing the mic at a free or lower cost).
