I sadly agree with most of what Esmoreit said.
If you're in a bar with a girl and a guy twice your size walks up to her and starts harassing her, it doesn't matter what this girl ever tells you, she would much rather you take a severe beating than just be a gentleman and walk away. So what if you've broken a couple ribs and you're pissing blood? At least you're not a "coward".
Don't get me wrong, it's not that she wants you to get hurt. Not at all. In fact, if you had punched the guy out, she would have been even happier (although I know women who would never ever admit this). But given the choice between "wussing out" and getting the crap beaten out of you... well, let's just say pacifists are less likely to get any.
