Speaking of Hallelujah, k. d. Lang did quite the cover at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics. Though I still prefer both Wainwright and Buckly's versions.
I prefer Pearl Jam's version of Last Kiss to the original. Same foes for Johnny Cash's rendition of Hurt (Nine Inch Nails). Jackson 5's version of Who's Loving You (Smokey Robinson).
I'm on the fence about Springsteen's cover of Jersey Girl. I do love Tom Waits original.
These are ones that came immediately to mind. I'll post more if I think of anymore.
