I'm wondering if the people saying agnostic actually understand its meaning. It isn't in between atheist and religious - it's not an 'I don't care' or an 'I don't know'. It means that you believe it's impossible to know absolutely whether or not a divine being exists. It doesn't really make up a religious position all by itself.
I'm an atheist by the way.
