As most people have said so far, Yamauchi was a bit of a near-sighted tyrant. Heck, I'm sure we'd have a HD Native Nintendo platform with a 20 GB hard drive if he were still president.
Iwata is a more civil, passive-aggressive president who saw casual gaming as the next big thing. So yes, I suppose you're right to an extent.
