Actually Sony has their own brand of Open GL. In any case the performance increase will be bigger the longer we wait between generations, and DX11+ is a very good baseline for most games developed beyond 2012 anyway as DX10 is compatible with DX11 in only running a lot slower. |
they can still use Open GL but also
Open GL ES,
the development kit hardware and confirmed and the choice of OpenGL ES as the graphics API in order to facilitate rapid developer adoption and content creation.
The Sony Playstation 3 will be using OpenGL ES for the 3D graphics API.
NVIDIA’s Cg shader language and tools (CG compiler, FX composer, ShaderPerf and PerHUD) and the development tools will also incorporate support for the COLLADA format for art asset interchange so that developers can share interactive 3D art among multiple platforms.
that very same thing for OPEN GL also the longer the generation goes . like open GL already has improvement's like DX ver's get the tool's get updated like Direct x does they both are not static.
