The Red Screen of Death

Oh gods, that is the only part of Mass Effect 2 that I HATED! I love that game, but why the red death screen? It seems like they talked to Epic and were like "we want this to be a great action game?" and Epic was like "Red death screen, bitches!" and Bioware said "If you say so. . . why don't you have a neck?"
