Even if Baxtor is right and Charlie is wrong, that is a lot of hurt for nVidia. It would be a ~500mm2 GPU with a complex 384 bit memory bus graphics card vs a 334mm2 chip with a 256 bit memory bus. End result, ATI cuts price down to $239 (where it started from memory) and nVidia bleeds lots of money for a fairly meaningless victory.

Wouldn't even be a victory, as with Fermi's rumoured power consumption the possibility of a dual GPU card is neg, so the chance of the 5970 being dethroned as fastest card is also neg.

This is true.

Plus, AMD could probably release a profitable 5890 anytime to put lots of pressure on Nvidia as well.
