Lord Flashheart said: On a large scale producing BD will cost less but for smaller less well known games that aren't going to sell as well as Uncharted it will impact them more than making the game on DVD9. I still think it's cheaper to have multiple DVD9's than a single bluray but not by too much so the whole "it cost more to make more dvd's" argument is void to me. |
well that also depends on a company by company basis. say even for the smaller game's once you order disc's in the 100's or thousands at a time most companies will and in most cases give you a break on the cost say for instance you order further in advance and you say instead of I need them right away, i can settle for much later to get my disc's produced, for a small reduction in cost's,
like printing the more you get printed the cheaper manytime's it will be because they want you stick with them, there are quite a number of these companies that want you to go with them since they know you need more disc's produced in that quantity. once you get over a million+ your already saving some $$$.
as the format ages the price goes down.
for example here is DVD ROM's
your locked into the rates, but the volume can be used to offset the cost's
example:
DVD rom
US$0.075 per disc;
US$0.065 per disc on or after January 1, 2002;
US$0.05 per disc on or after January 1, 2004;
US$0.04 per disc on or after the effective date of the DVD6C License Agreement
so as you can see in under a 2 year time frame the cost dropped by quite a bit.
so already cost per BD 25 BEING AT NEAR 12 CENT'S per disc early last year.
now that there is more companies that have BD production line's prices are getting reduced very fast.
