Lord Flashheart said: Interesting read joeorc. I would still like a total cost of DVD9 verses BD25 and 50 but I doubt we'll ever know and it'll be speculation. Either way a good read. |
thank's, there is many factor's
as an example:
yes it's pretty much on a per/basis situation does because the more volume you buy the more you get in reduced cost/disc, say first run if you think your game is going to sell quite a bit you buy a large release production run but you also risk the sale's return. being slower than your sell through on a disc by disc basis and how fast it sell's, let's look at Modren warfare as an example:
how many copy's do you think they had in the first production run?
now let's compare that to say
how many of uncharted was produced in it's first production run.
you can guess Moderen warfare would have been cheaper over all to produce because of the number of disc's ordered right off the bat, now this apply's if you do not have your own production line's, Sony on the other hand does so in the end it would be cheaper for sony to go through itself to produce those disc's even though it has to charge itself the same price there is thing's they can do to offset the cost's like production of other's disc's not just blu-ray but also DVD.
blu-ray was a big stream of money for any founder money and since it's estimated at 30% for just sony in it's not alone that is pretty smart, even what's more ironic
they and NEC joint production optiarc .inc in 2006 Sony could have also produce HD DVD disc's for other companies if Sony wanted to.
