True....  Although I am an ind responsibility guy the teachs and profs need to be held to example as well.  I favor merit pay and firing of bad teachers.

For that to work, you'd need a surplus of teachers (hint: there isn't one, the education system is always under-staffed) and decent pay.

@sguy: Don't even pretend like no high school education is even remotely comparable to a bad one.  Plus, Raleigh has some very good high schools, 2-3 of which are in the top 100 in the nation.
