Looking at the reaction from the PC community I don't think this is going to get a bunch of people sitting with high spec PCs to buy a 360 to get Alan Wake.
Also, I'd say it's pretty clear MS is focused on 360 to the detriment of PC.

Even though MS is focusing on the 360 almost exclusively gaming-wise now, Microsoft still has PC gamers by the balls so they don't care. If you are a PC gamer, having Windows installed is pretty much a must given how many PC games are only supported on Windows. So good luck gaming with just Linux at your disposal. And the Mac? Well, there's not much there either unless you install Windows (win-win for Microsoft).

What the heck does the OS have to do with it? MS gets paid by Dell or whoever for the bundled OS, they see almost nothing from game sales and have next to zero grip on the PC market. In fact it's pretty clear with piracy, etc. no-one has much of a grip on the PC market. What the hell are you talking about?
I really don't understand why some console gamers think PC is a MS owned and controlled environment for gaming because of the OS. Have you see Live marketshare next to something like Steam or Direct2Drive? MS is irrelevant on PC other than their ability to influence whether certain games appear on PC. The OS is no more a factor than having an Nvidia card or a specific make of HDD.

Didn't I make myself clear? If you want to play computer games, you pretty much need Windows because most computer games require it. How does that benefit Microsoft? Simple. You are forced to buy Windows or a PC with Windows installed to play games. I didn't say anything about royalties. Microsoft makes money from PC gaming indirectly (through people buying Windows so that they can play the games), not directly like they do with the Xbox.

I don't think that holds as the OS is simply a component as I said. By your logic MS, Nvidia and the majority players all force me to buy there bits becuase I want a PC - Windows just happens to have a higher share of the components monopoly, but its incidental to the purpose.

No, I just don't buy this. Also, what I really meant is what the hell did you post have to do with the topic at all? I responsed to someone wondering if not having a PC version would drive PC owners to get a 360, and I responded probably not - where did 'hah, MS have PC gamers by the balls' come from in that discussion?
