I chose Other, because I blame Wii Fit.
Now that that's out of the way, the real problem is the tribal instinct of human beings. We like to break the world us into us vs. them, and are willing to create these mental divisions based on pretty much any criteria: Nation, gender, race, ideology, etc. Because we're nerds, we like to use computer and videogame platforms instead of language or class.
Then we go on to find excuses to reinforce these divisions and lift up "our side" while putting down "their side." It helps build a sense of community and comraderie within the tribe, which we humans find very rewarding, maybe even necessary, due to our social nature.
