Well like I said, Valkyria is up next. The writing so far (I'm five missions in) isn't stupendous or anything, but I expect it to get better over time.
I guess what it comes down to is that I like JRPGs best when they embrace their style and particular storytelling modes. Sakaguchi, after having learned from Hori, is particularly good at that
