I guess the benefit of hex tiles is that you can't go "through" an enemy line, but Civ 2 wouldn't allow you to move from 1 side to another side of the same enemy which allowed you to create diagonal barriers. EDIT: don't know how many people read the article, but they are adding units that can attack from behind the front lines, which sounds awesome. That is awesome. I always thought it was retarted that to attack with catapults, you have to directly engage it with the enemy forces.
