Funny you mention that.  One time I was on an elevator and while two women were speaking I was trying to guess which eastern european language they were speaking, until suddenly I realized it was in fact... you guessed it.  I had a Portuguese girlfriend at the time and I'm quite good at picking up languages, so yes I'd say in a way it does sound kinda eastern european.
