Well I know there's about 100 people playing Conquest on the PS3 at the same time.

Okay, that kind of proved my point. 100 people is pretty insignificant, don't ya think? And they have to close their servers at some point. They can't be up forever.

Why not patch the games to use P2P instead of rendering the online portion useless

Even if they used P2P, it's not like that stops a game from being shut down like the games Microsoft will be shutting down soon.
