This points to the need for games to have a rich single/local player experience for them to be useful over the long-term.
If they are just disposal pieces of entertainment, which can be devalued to next-to-nothingness by a corporate decision, they how much longer will people be willing to pay a full days wages (at minimum wage) for a game (It takes 8.25 hours at the US minimum wage to make the $60 price point for a new game).
