never really liked the old sonic games i played them but i didnt like the linear style. i like sonic adventure 1 and 2 and the day levels of unleashed. i think sega/sonic team should of just focus on the speed, design, and re-playability. anything relating to the npc or side quest should be left outside the story like in sonic adventure to avoid slowing down the gameplay. unlike nsmb wii this game wont sell well because of its nostalgic style. in fact the 2-d approach might be its downfall when it comes to reviews...
