As is egoism, I think the object of love might well prefer you killing someone unrelated than being dead yourself. Dealing with giving up your life for somebody else's sake is a pretty hard thing IMO (and I hope I never get into that sort of situation), especially if you have to calculate it (as opposed to doing it on an impulse, which takes some of the load off).
But there's also the thing about how the other person feels after that, and whether they are even remotely happy to have their life saved if that meant your death. And you're dead, you don't have to deal with anything anymore, they are the ones who have to.
