Well I just (finally) started the game, and so far so good. What really has me wondering so far is the people that have issues with the nightmare sequences. So far I don't see how anyone could have any issues with that part. The controls in the nightmare sequences work absolutely fine (the best advice is just do the motion, don't flail) and adding a weapon to the mix would have absolutely voided the effect of these sequences, which are (imo) what true survival horror is all about. You do have the occasional flare, which gives you a brief respite (when you manage to reach one...), as effective as a gun with a total of 6 bullets.

As to being scary - I play this at night, all alone, and without going into spoilers, even in the "normal" world, where no monsters can jump at you supposedly, I find the moments where the static rises, as one approaches a focal point, quite tension building. And the camera moments even more so - quite spooky/disturbing,
