"By now it's known that XIII is rather linear, especially compared to other Final Fantasy games. Can you comment on what made your team decide on this structure?"
Yoshinori Kitase: "When we set out to create Final Fantasy XIII, it was to make it similar to watching a movie or a drama on TV. We intentionally created the game to be very linear early on and the structure gives players the opportunity to get to know the world as well as the brand new battle system. We wanted to make sure that was in place.
Once players get a handle on the mechanisms of the game system toward the middle of the game, characters are able to freely explore an open world in Pulse. Then it becomes more like an open world RPG where the storyline isn't as heavily restricting on the characters' actions and the player can really enjoy the battle system."
Am I the only person who likes a more story driven game? That is why I love MGS4/Xenosaga/FFX. We need more of these. Also Drama in a RPG is bonus points. I love Drama. Especially Comedic Drama.
