Its because people started saying 'wait the game is coming out on PC I don't need an Xbox 360' so Microsoft read those posts and responded in kind.

Probably more true than not even with the intended sarcasm.

If MS wants to maintain an encapsulated gaming platform like any console platform, I'm sure they acknowledge they do need exclusive titles labeled "Only On Xbox 360" to help market it. Fable II, Gears 2, Halo 3, Forza 3, etc. All strong games that could have easily been ported to Windows even if they wouldn't have sold as well as they did on console.

While I don't know if Alan Wake is intended as a franchise, if it is accepted as a must play experience, it will sell more Xboxes and sell more players on the Xbox as a platform, even if it is at the expense of all those poor PC gamers who'd like to have it all on one super duper box.

SCE has their in house exclusives. Part of the problem for MS is the strong correlation between MS Games for Windows and MS Xbox which makes most PC players feel entitled to those Xbox exclusives even if they really aren't.

That being said, I'd still rather play Alan Wake on PC with DX11 effects. Too bad!

Actually no sarcasm intended. They said as much themselves.

It's their platform. If anyone doesn't like it, they can either go buy an Xbox for $199 or boycott those 360 exclusives.
