The_vagabond7 said: It's not that Sony won't, it's that Sony can't. The entertainment division had been bleeding money for the first few years of the PS3's life, and they lost billions. The actual figure I can't remember but they lost all of the money they made on the PS1 and PS2 combined just on the PS3's first few years of life. Try justifying getting into a bidding war with microsoft over timed exclusivity to your shareholders when your division is already hemorrhaging money like a man who just had his jugular sliced. It would not go over well. They are finally getting back into a decent position with the PS3 financially, but if they want to ever make some kind of money back, they can't compete for things in the way Microsoft is motivated to. Sony fanboys like to say that sony is incredibly honorable for not "buying" exlusives like that evil slimey despicable "Micro$oft" but you can bet your sweet bippy that if sony had the capital to do so, they would be fighting microsoft tooth and nail and throwing wads of cash at everyone with pockets. There is no "honor" is multibillion dollar corporations, there is only results for your shareholders. |
I think this hits it on the head. If i remember correctly metal gear and finial fantasy were both nentendo exclusives at one time. GTA was released on pc before it appeared on playstation if i recall correctly. You can almost bet sony paid out some money to get them on the ps1 to gain marketshare against the last gen leader. Microsoft seems to be doing the same thing this gen except the titles are going multi-plat instead of exclusive.
