I'm fine with most alternative business models (subscriptions, episodic content, for-pay downloadable extras) as long as there is value in what is being charged for; and (for the most part) I find that currently the value most companies offer in this way is very poor.

Using Mario Kart as an example, if Nintendo released a full Mario Kart Game and every month to 6 weeks packaged a new circuit with a couple of additional racers and a few new carts together and sell it for $5 I would see value in this and I could imagine spending more than the game on downloadable content over time. In contrast, if Nintendo reacted like a lot of companies will approach this they would release half a game and then charge $5 for each track, $1 for each new racer and $1 for each cart; which I don't see value in and am (somewhat) insulted by.
