What's the idea of slowing down this elimination game?

No matter who you vote for, the absolute effect is -3 to the total amount of points in the elimination game.

The only "slowing down" of the elimination game is in your mind

 

 Nope, it's still slowing down.  If the winning developer has a ton of points left over, that's a ton of points that don't have to be messed with.  It'll take a lot longer if the winner has 2 points than if he has 40.
