let's all blame 360 for this low score???...yeah???...that sounds about right...

ok but for reals....

@chenguo4...

really???...not evolve???...FF series is the one series known to evolve EVERY release or implement something NEW to the jrpg genre...so i guess ff1 ff7 and ff13 all have same gameplay...and hasn't evolved...

there was a HUGE evolution from ff6 to ff7 couple minors in between up to X and then another HUGE evolution in XII...

if it's about not evolving and what not...persona4 should get the trophy for that imo....but persona3 and persona4 was awesome...still pretty much the same game...just some MINOR changes...no big changes like FF series

Just because the game went from 2D to 3D from FFVI to FFVII does not equal "HUGE evolution," although, I do agree that every FF has been very different, the largest change being from X to XII.  The only big changes in gameplay between FFVI and FFVII were the inclusion of mini-games to make the story more interactive.  Still, Final Fantasy is the most inventive of all the jrpgs, and to claim that it is stuck in the past is like saying FPS shooters need to not involve shooting and first-person point of view... too cliche and overused :O

materia???...first ever supposed in-game cgi??...they tried new stuff...the combat mechanism itself doesn't make the whole game...or else jrpg might as well be a text game....ummm...and come on...MATERIA....i thought materia was awesome....and how about the all famous ruby and emerald weapons....

btw...going from 2d to 3d is a big evolution to me and alot of people...went from playing ff6 to 7...i was like WHOA...THIS IS AWESOME...so yeah...i guess that's just your preference...and to square enix...i should say square soft at that point...it was a big evolution as a company challenging themselves from 2d to 3d...

ffx i think was pretty big change as well...sphere grid...you didn't level up in status points in anyway whatsoever...u had to open up nodes to get ur max mp/hp up....learn new skills...etc....which indirectly opened up the idea of the license board for ffxii...

2D to 3D is graphical changes (as well as CGI), and considering most of FFVII was still 2D movement, it really didn't effect gameplay.  Materia is basically a smarter Esper system, not that big of a change when you consider the systems in the games before VI and VII.  The experience in FFVI is VERY different then FFVII, but the major evolution in gameplay was FFVIII.

i understand what you're trying to say...but i dont quite think you are understanding my point of view...i'm saying gameplay itself isn't the only factor to being a evolution in making an rpg game or any game for that matter....as i state b4...a game going from 2d to 3d is a big evolution...and in some very rare case....going from 3d to 2d can be called an evolution...

so if we take in what you said...we can just go back to making ff14 a 2d game and it won't affect anything at all....and it won't be called de-evolving because you said it hasn't evolved...

also i dont think anyone here would agree ffvii was a 2d movement...there was no block space you move to and from....i remember clearly you can move diagonally very little or alot...run or walk....those definitely were not of 2d movement....

The camera didn't rotate as you moved, and think about the Mythril Mines when I say 2D movement.  The only movement that felt like 3D was when the movement plane was tilted, but even then it was still a flat plane, just flipped around to match the backdrops.  Also, since when could 2D games not have diagonal movement?
