Apple have pretty much brought nothing to the table. They just see someone elses product and then make it more accessible to people. It's there marketing technique that sells the product. Like the iPhone is the biggest rip off ever. It's not even a smart phone really. The features you get with it are years behind most smartphones out there. And they keep changing the specs in it. Mac OS is good but the apple tax is too expensive for me to buy one. The iPod is the only apple product I have bought and I will admit I am happy with it since I had it about 3 years and it's still going strong. Don't wanna change it since their newer ones have the volume limit really low. |
Lord, I hate that excuse. "They just take someone else's product and make it more accessible." Well, if that is so bloody easy to do, why don't other companies do it? Why did it take Apple to make an iPod when everybody else was doing such a brilliant job in the MP3 player market? Oh, that's right, because they WEREN'T doing a brilliant job of it. The same applies to the Music Store (you have a rather short memory if you don't remember just how viciously studios were blocking digital distribution before Apple presented them with a solid foundation on which to start selling music online).
If you think the iPhone is the biggest rip-off ever, good for you. See, I owned three Blackberrys and two Windows Mobile devices before my iPhone. You know what? They all SUCKED on various levels. BBs couldn't play media and pretty much everything on the Windows devices were fucking terrible.
If the iPhone was such a bad idea and such a rip-off, why do 75% of the smartphones released today use an interface that strongly resembles the one Apple created and why is the form factor almost identical? There are plenty of reasons to hate Apple and their product strategy but really, just try to give credit where credit is due. They're the best interface people on the planet. Almost every other company emulates what they did last generation (and yes, they often times improve upon Apple's design).
