I've been a commissioner salesperson for years before I graduated from college. Our highest commission items by % were in this order.

1. Extra Warranties.
2. Accessories.
3. Product.

Reason? markup. For every $100 you spend on a warranty the company expects to profit $80. Because products generally don't break (ignoring x360's early years).

I have never and will never buy warranties, since the money I save by not buying them is more than the rare case when I am forced to repurchase a broken product.

youre absolutely right, just as the part of my brain i killed that day.

of course they're making money out of it, and MAYBE i have wasted money, because the Broken PS3's do display less than 2% of all Consoles shipped... but i can sleep better with it, after my first broke.

@warranty: yes, this damn rule... sony overgoes it, by offering the service to exchange the PS3 (or fixing it, its a matter of the type of defect) - but for a sweet amount of money. (169 Euro to get another 40gig PS3, and maybe not a new one, but my old one fixed - and who knows how long it'll last..?)

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!
